Resolution by Rep. John Bel Edwards pumps money into education budget
Just as he did two years ago, Rep. John Bel Edwards (D-Amite) found a way to increase funding for schools even after public education’s Minimum Foundation Program formula had been rejected.
As the session drew to a close, the Senate finally approved Rep. Edwards’ HCR 231, which calls for an additional 1.375%, or $36 million, to be included in the budget for public education. It had been held up while waiting for the House to take a crucial vote on the controversial SAVE plan.

An AFL-CIO Budget Summary
The following is a summary both on recent efforts to repeal our Prevailing Wage laws and on the Joint Finance Committee’s activities over the last 10 days. After celebrating Memorial Day weekend, legislators returned to the Capitol last week only to launch further attacks on workers and Wisconsin’s working families through the budget and legislative processes.
The rights of employees to the presence of a union steward during investigatory interviews was announced by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1975 in NLRB v. J. Weingarten, Inc. Since that case involved a clerk being investigated by the Weingarten Company, these rights have become known as Weingarten Rights. An investigatory inverview occurs when a supervisor questions an employee to obtain information that could be used as a basis for dicipline or asks an employee to defend his or her conduct.

We have come to a critical point in Negotiations. Your voices have been heard! Thank you to those that have sent letters and emails stating your positions on the Districts proposals. The Team has represented all unit members through the proposals we have made to the District. The Team has yet to receive counter-proposals to most of the proposals that were presented, and have yet to receive any proposals we fully agree with. We continue the fight for a salary increase, an increased District contribution to medical benefits, and K-3 preparation time equity.
