At last night's regular chapter meeting, the following items were acted on by the membership:
Approval of the Tentative Agreement with District management that for any bargaining unit employee who announces their retirement before December 15, they will receive a 2.5% salary increase for July 1 - Dec 31, 2016 so that it may be calculated into their PERS retirement.
Approval of a 2016-2107 chapter budget.
Our first Federation Social of the year is this Friday 12/2 from 3-7 at the American Legion on Smith St.
In light of the recent hate crimes in the area, the Danbury Nurses’ Union Unit #47 Executive Committee voted to join with other Unions and Social Justice Groups to show unity for peace and acceptance and the right for religious freedom. Republicans in the Michigan Senate are pushing Senate Bill 102, legislation that would close the Michigan Public School Retirement System to newly hired school employees.
This attack on our pensions is being led by anti-working family interests and billionaires—including Betsy DeVos, the U.S. president-elect’s pick for Secretary of Education. DeVos and others like her believe that workers should only have access to risky 401(k)-style retirement plans. We know there will be a serious attempt made to ban traditional pensions in the public sector, and it’s a slippery slope!
LANSING — The selection of Betsy DeVos to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education is an affront to students and education professionals in Michigan, according to the leaders of Michigan’s school employee unions, the American Federation of Teachers Michigan and the Michigan Education Association.
Members of the Cleveland Hill Education Association walked on October 15, 2016, in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event held in downtown Buffalo. This year, our members donated over $1,100 to this fundraiser. Thanks to those who walked or sponsored a walker!
On October 27, 2016, at the Fall membership meeting, UFAS-UWEC members voted unanimously to approve a recommendation on how Chancellor Schmidt should allocate $3 million in one-time money among staff and faculty at UW-Eau Claire.
