Teacher of The Year Nomination form and NMSF Grant application

Teacher of the Year nomination are open.  Forms are being distributed this week.  Please nominate an outstanding educator for recognition.  Any staff member, parent or student may nominate educators for this honor.  Nominations need to be in the NMFT office by October 4th. 

AFTHCMD Organizing Blitz 2019

AFT Healthcare-Maryland sent members and staff on a “blitz” to organize employees in bargaining Unit E. The blitz brought committed member activists together with staff from AFT-Maryland, AFT’s national office, and our partners at AFSCME to engage public health care professionals across the state and bring them to the union.

MPEC Health and Safety Meeting

Members are concerned with the recent work environment challenges at the Maryland Department of Health. Bedbugs were reported to be in the building and members are worried about the many health challenges that presents. In response, MPEC held a union meeting to update members on what we have heard from the state as well as to hear from members what they are experiencing.

HCTA @ the NEA Representative Assembly

Elected representatives of HCTA attended the National Education Association's Representative Assembly (RA) in Houston, TX, July 3rd-7th. These dedicated association members, along with thousands of education colleagues from across the nation, vetted positions on current education issues and tackled 160 new business items over the course of five days. Statement on Governor Wolf’s Announcement of Charter School Reforms

Plymouth Meeting, PA, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 – Arthur Steinberg, President of AFT Pennsylvania, issued the following statement on behalf of the more than 36,000 members of the Commonwealth’s statewide affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers on Tuesday:

“We are very encouraged by Governor Wolf’s announcement today that he will back legislation to address commonsense charter school reforms in Pennsylvania, including transparency requirements, a cap on cyber charter enrollment and a moratorium on new cyber charter schools.
