SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, NOW WHAT?

Earlier this month Governor Edwards announced that schools would remain closed through the end of the school year. The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has provided some guidelines for local school districts, but for the most part administrators, teachers, and school employees have had to make it work in an impossible situation.

OFNHP has elected new leadership for a two-year term. Thank you to every candidate who stepped up and every member who voted. Our Election Committee worked very hard this year to conduct this election fairly in times of pandemic. Please join us in sending a note of gratitude to committee members at elections@ofnhp.org.

As COVID-19 spreads, the American Federation of Teachers believes that there will be significant closings of state, county and local operations and is calling on all public employee leaders and members to prepare for it. The AFT is working constantly to help our members and the people they serve navigate this virus, and buffer against the economic impacts.

While Alabama’s 722,000 students won’t return to k-12 classrooms this spring, some teachers will be returning to school as early as April 6.

As officials form their plans for distance learning, due to the state department of education by Friday, teachers are learning whether they're required to return to school buildings to do their work.
