Negotiations Update February 19, 2013

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The one year “anniversary” of the start of negotiations has arrived. I hate to think of how many trees we’ve used up, with our multiple drafts of proposals, counter proposals, tentative-tentative agreements and volumes of minutes.  All that paper represents a lot of thinking, reflection, consideration…and in the near future, we hope, a contract worthy of ratification.

We Need Your Help to Preserve Governor's Budget Proposal for State Worker Compensation

Members of the North Dakota House of Representatives plan to introduce an amendment to an appropriations bill that was passed by the N.D. Senate, approving Gov. Jack Dalrymple's proposed increase to state worker compensation, which would slice this figure down from the $128 million proposed over the next biennium. Click here to read more about this and learn more about what we can do to send the House a message to preserve this budget proposal from the Governor and approved overwhelmingly by the Senate.

In Alabama a bus driver was killed and a boy was taken hostage off the bus. The bus drivers are the first line of protection for the students.

I would like to thank the bus drivers. They go to work early whether it's freezing or it's hot, they have to watch for the students at every stop. If the students go on a trip and the bus breaks down, another driver will have to go get the students and bring them back to their town. If a bully is riding the bus the drivers will deal with it, they will help a student if they feel sick. When the bus is stopped and the lights are flashing red, some people don't stop and they are not concern about what the law says.
